Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa: luxury vacation in Mauritius
If island vacations no longer captivate you as before, and stunning beaches no longer touch your soul, then it's time to elevate the level of service and switch to something more exclusive. The Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is not just a five-star resort, it's a five-star plus, in other words, a luxury-style vacation.
Trou aux Biches belongs to the well-known hotel chain Beachcomber Hotels. All of their hotels are of high class and are located only in fantastically beautiful places: eight hotels in Mauritius (4-6 stars), one in the Seychelles (5 stars+), one in Marrakech (6 stars), and another one on the French Riviera (4 stars).
Trou aux Biches is considered the most romantic hotel in Mauritius, although some might argue against it (definitely not us), but what there is no doubt about is that it is the largest hotel in the Indian Ocean. With 35 hectares of stunning tropical gardens, 27 separate villas, 300 rooms, a two-kilometer beach with white sand, six restaurants, and several pools of different sizes.
About the Location
The hotel is located on the northwest coast of Mauritius, which provides it with reliable protection from the winds and the best weather conditions throughout the year. Its almost endless stretch of pristine beach is the best spot to witness raspberry-lilac and terracotta-orange tropical sunsets.
By the way, the Trou aux Biches beach, located on the edge of the turquoise lagoon, is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius. The entrance to the crystal-clear water is wonderful, even without a mask, you can see plenty of interesting things. Sun loungers with woven umbrellas are spaced out at a good distance from each other, the beach is never completely crowded, so it's always possible to find a spot away from everyone and relax in seclusion.
The hotel's grounds are surrounded by greenery, with sprawling coconut palms, exotic flowers, and shrubs visible everywhere. It feels like living in a real, but very well-kept and lush garden. Bright and amusing birds inhabit the area, pleasantly and unobtrusively awakening guests in the mornings. Many rooms are located in such a way that the ocean is only a two to three-minute walk away. Starting the morning with the singing of birds and the sound of the ocean is incredibly pleasant.
Unique Benefits or What You Won't Find Anywhere Else
In 2010, the Trou aux Biches hotel underwent a renovation and became the first eco-friendly resort on the island of Mauritius. A great deal of attention is given to environmental preservation, actively utilizing solar panels (1000 square meters), implementing composting systems, wastewater collection, and purification facilities. Thanks to all these efforts, the hotel has created a unique atmosphere of harmony with nature.
Since there are quite large spaces here, it is pleasant to occasionally use the car service. Within five minutes, a golf buggy arrives to take you wherever you need to go, for example, to dinner or the gym.
Guests staying in the villas (Mauritian beach bungalows) have access to a personal butler. They can handle any issue, take care of you and your comfort, and even prepare a special breakfast while you sleep. Perhaps this option is what stood out to us the most. The butler helped, took care of literally everything, and thought two steps ahead. Upon returning to Moscow, we missed him greatly. What can I say: you quickly get used to the good things!
Another definite plus is the Russian-speaking hotel staff member. She is always ready to provide guidance, assistance, swiftly and competently. For example, she can help with car rental to explore the island or arrange a special excursion.
At Trou aux Biches, they respect private life and therefore guarantee complete privacy. Everything is arranged in a way that you constantly feel hidden from everyone, shielded from prying eyes, and this is very appealing. The villas are situated at sufficient distances from each other and additionally shielded by lush greenery, as if hidden. An interesting and tantalizing detail: an outdoor shower. It's unusual, but for some reason, very pleasant.
Another thing that won us over: all the villas, as well as the Beach Front Suites and Senior Beach Front Suites, have their own pools. They may be small (almost like jacuzzis), but they belong only to you during your stay. When we saw our pool, I must admit, we spent almost two hours in it with great pleasure. Everything in this hotel is well thought out to the smallest detail, the service is excellent, the staff is more than attentive, so everyone feels unique, and that's wonderful! It's great when someone is able to make you a little bit happier.
As for other suite categories, they are grouped into crescents around large pools (126 square meters).
Restaurants
The Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa hotel features six restaurants offering various cuisines: Thai, Italian, Indian, and Mediterranean. They operate based on an à la carte menu or in a buffet style. Four restaurants are located in the central area of the hotel, around the main pool. By the way, in the evenings, the pool romantically reflects the lighting, creating a mirror-like effect.
The remaining two restaurants are designed in an island-themed, more relaxed style and are located near the beach and the Indian Ocean.
High-quality dishes, varied cuisine with plenty of tropical fruits, some of which may be familiar to us but have a completely different taste. Among the unusual items, we tried oysters with various sauces, sea urchin roe, bamboo salad, and Mauritian cuisine dishes.
Entertainment and Sports
Hidden in the tropical gardens is a wonderful, modern, and spacious sports center with state-of-the-art sports equipment. In the mornings, we indulged in exercising on the machines, joining group cardio workouts, stretching during shaping sessions, or doing some aerobics. Almost everything, except for private lessons, is included in the accommodation cost. You can also visit the hammam completely free of charge, but it's better to do it at the beginning to prepare your skin for a golden tan.
The hotel guests have access to six illuminated tennis courts, table tennis tables, beach volleyball, petanque, and mountain biking excursions in the picturesque surroundings. Those who prefer water activities will surely appreciate the opportunity to engage in sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, or diving. Water skiing, kayaking, catamaran rides, and even glass-bottom boat rides are always available (which is very exciting and, most importantly, completely free). I have no doubt that thrill-seekers will be thrilled with the underwater scooter excursion.
When you feel like relaxing, make sure to visit the luxurious SPA center at Trou aux Biches with 20 treatment rooms and try a traditional Thai massage in one of the pavilions with a thatched roof. The air there is filled with the aroma of an exotic garden, and the sounds of rustling leaves further enhance the calming atmosphere. You'll sleep deeply and soundly after the massage. Both the body and mind finally relax completely.
Unforgettable Sensations
Mauritius has many curious sights. You can rent a car and explore the entire island, or you can do something even more interesting and exclusive — take a bird's-eye view of Mauritius.
At Trou aux Biches, they can help you book a helicopter tour to see the island's attractions from a different angle. For example, one of the wonders visible from above is the "underwater waterfall," easily observed in the Indian Ocean off the coast of the Le Morne Brabant peninsula in southwest Mauritius. Unfortunately, this is only an illusion formed by coral reefs, sand and silt deposits washed away by strong underwater currents. Hence, it creates the impression of a waterfall flowing underwater, with its swirling currents descending directly onto the ocean floor. Even the ocean current from the coastal shelf zone, pulling sand from the bottom, can become incredibly captivating for tourists from all over the world. At least we were quite impressed!
From up high, a beautiful panorama unfolds: all the small islands near Mauritius, its magnificent lagoons and bays, picturesque mountains and cliffs are visible. A helicopter excursion will allow you to peek directly into the crater of an extinct volcano and see flocks of dolphins frolicking on the horizon.
